Interests
My interests (passions) include the history of the English Civil war and local history, especially of Morpeth and its environs. I also adore Northumberland, its landscape, pubs, food, people and culture. My interests are well served by The Craft Studio in Morpeth where my friend Keith sells a range of books on local history, as well as postcards, coins and other collectables.
My current favourite walks are around beautiful and mysterious Hartburn, with the ghostly postholes of its roman bridge in the bed of the Hartburn itself, the 'bottomless' pool in the river (with its lost treasure from the Church!), cave and lovely countryside, and around Shaftoe Crag, an area of breathtaking beauty. After my walk, I usually stop at the delightful Ox Inn in Middleton, just below the track of the old 'Wannie' line to Scotland, for the warm welcome & a ham, peasepudding and mustard (lots) butty (also- try the homemade soup-lovely!) and G & large T to contemplate, the silence broken only by the sheep and lovely little brook in the field opposite. The old stone bridge across the road and to the west of the Ox is ancient, marking a highway long since forgotten in the mists of time.
